It's great to see the ATIP response in the context of what we know about the fact checking complex. For groups that claim to be dedicated to truth & informing the public there sure is a lot of redacted detail that suggests the truth is too damning to share & they know it. Bravo Liam!!

As somebody who had very low trust in the CBC prior to this, I'm sincerely wondering if it can be salvaged at all. If it was up to me, instead of outright defunding the CBC I would advocate that it be transformed into a genuine public forum for Canadians. It would be much easier to promote Canadian content across the board if the public broadcaster acted as a platform, instead of a publisher.

Thank you Liam for this very valuable summary. I am going to send a link to it to Eva Chipiuk and Trish Wood. I would also send the link directly to Carrie Sakamoto if I knew how to contact her.

Eva Chipiuk is the lawyer for Carrie Sakamoto who is suing several government agencies, including the CBC, for damages after taking a Covid vaccine. I first found out about this case from Trish Wood’s podcast, here

https://www.trishwoodpodcast.com/podcast/episode-173-sakamoto-chupiuk-buckley:

”First case of its kind — a vaccine injured woman includes the CBC [Canadian Broadcasting Corporation] in her lawsuit against public health and the government. Carrie Sakamoto and her lawyer Eva Chipiuk are staring down some of the most powerful forces in the country to get justice, and perhaps set a precedent.”

The statement of claim may be found here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Eohi6U-x5n0cx9zBOwy35PmoZ-VotnlN/view. Of particular relation to the CBC are items 51, 69 and 70:

51: “In the fall of 2021 and into early 2022, Carrie reached out to many Canadian mainstream media networks, including the CBC, to tell them her story so they could share the impacts of adverse events from the Covid Vaccines with the public and medical doctors. She was advised that they could not report on information that negatively reported on the Covid Vaccines.”

69: “CBC, as Canada’s national, public broadcaster, has an obligation to the Canadian public to ensure that the information is of a high standard which includes, but is not limited to: accuracy, fairness, balance, impartiality and integrity. CBC, in its capacity as Canada’s national, public broadcaster amplified the Representations [of the defendants] using the Vaccine Campaigns.

70: “CBC as the public broadcaster abdicated its responsibility to hold the governmental agencies and employees to account by being a mouthpiece of the Minister of Health and the various provincial health authorities in Canada.”
